Trying on a ginormous velvet hat from 1910, when I was at the impressionable age of 12, started a life-long hunt for the perfect hat. As with shoes, there are so many fabulous ones to choose from that you are sure to find a perfect one for any occasion! This has led to a storage problem. Some just won’t fit in a hatbox, so I created hat stands out of candlesticks.

Project: Create a hat stand out of a vintage candlestick.

Cut a piece off of a large styrofoam sphere to create a flat surface. Place it on top of a candlestick. You may want to adhere it in some way; I did not. Then choose a piece of fabric that goes with your decor and cut it into a large circle. Finish the edge with a decorative stitch. Place it over the styrofoam and tie it with ribbon to secure it to the candlestick.
